Tennessee police have arrested a woman for sending a Facebook "poke"

Tennessee police have arrested a woman for sending a Facebook "poke". Poking someone on Facebook is like a digital nudge. It attracts the user's attention by popping up a message next time they log in. The victim (pokee?) in this case had already obtained a restraining order against the assailant (poker), and the police accepted a screenshot of facebook as proof of violation of this order.

It would appear that the police investigating this case are looking for more solid evidence, in the form of logs from facebook. This does show that law enforcement agencies are taking social networking seriously - rightly treating this as if it was a telephone message, or other "pre web" communication.
Organisations should take heed - the same laws governing telephone, mail and email communication may well apply equally to social networks.
