Our 2018 Highlights

It's been a busy year at Smoothwall and there's lots of exciting developments coming in 2019. 

New leadership

In May 2018, we welcomed our new Chief Executive Officer, Georg Ell. Having held senior leadership roles at innovative tech businesses including Tesla, Yammer, and Microsoft, Georg brings deep expertise as well as a mission for Smoothwall to become the most trusted safeguarding solutions provider in the world. It’s a goal that’s transforming all areas of our business.

People first & Best Companies’ award

We are passionate about people and culture and in December Smoothwall was awarded a Best Companies’ Two Star Award for “Outstanding” Employee Engagement. We’re thrilled for our team’s dedication to be recognised in this way. Our people love to work here and that means we’re (successfully) competing for the best talent with the biggest companies in the North.

The number one provider of filtering & safeguarding technology in the UK

In June, Smoothwall acquired the digital safeguarding company Future Digital, and three months later we launched not one but two improved and re-branded monitoring services called RADAR and RADAR Lite (RADAR Lite is free to existing Smoothwall customers).

Complementing our human-moderated flagship monitoring service, Visigo, these new unmoderated services mean we now offer monitoring for customers regardless of their size or requirements. It cements our position as the number one provider of safeguarding technology in the UK Education sector. We’re proud to protect over 10,000 schools as well as a significant number of healthcare and other institutions.

Always listening to and supporting our customers

Supporting our customers with trusted solutions and dependable support is our core mission. In 2018 we invested heavily in talent and new systems, especially in our engineering and customer support teams, all based in Leeds.

Our new Knowledge Base is a great step forward but it’s just the beginning. We’ve introduced improved case management as well as Chat Support (with >95% Customer Satisfaction ratings).

We also made more than 13 updates and improvements to our flagship Filtering products. By listening to our customers around the world we have developed an exciting product roadmap for 2019. We’ve themed it ‘Fast, Flexible and Empowering’ and each development will offer our customers a benefit in one or more of these areas. There’ll be exciting announcements in the first half of 2019 and beyond.

It’s been an exciting year with a lot of change going on at Smoothwall. We’re working extremely hard to be a team our customers completely trust and with whom they enjoy working and we’re looking to the future with more focus and determination than ever.
