What’s the background?
Assystem is an international engineering and innovation consultancy, operating in several markets including aerospace, energy, defence, life sciences and more. Assystem is headquartered in France and has a presence in 20 countries around the globe. At present, Assystem employs circa 12,000 employees.
What was the challenge?
With such a large workforce, Assystem needed a web filtering solution that would be robust and reliable. Previously, they had been using a solution from Bloxx which provided them with URL filtering, but Assystem needed so much more from their new web gateway.
Tom Nock, IT Systems Administrator, discusses the move from Bloxx to Smoothwall. “For us, Bloxx was just too unreliable. Our IT team suffered on more than one occasion when logging in caused it to wipe out internet access for the whole organisation. For Assystem, our internet connection needs to be fast and stable to allow us to support our customers effectively through each of our divisions. The reporting function was also substandard, with reports failing to generate and the reports being poorly presented. It wasn’t very user-friendly at all.”
