Framlingham introduces a fantastic new feature
Introducing a fantastic new feature that will significantly help if you need to call our support team or get advice from one of our configuration gurus.
We may sometimes ask to gain access to your system via an SSH tunnel or through a TeamViewer session. This takes some time to establish and quite often we are asked to gain access to systems where there is no local access to the administration interface.
In Framlingham we have a support tunnel feature that enables us to gain access to your systems more easily and securely, whilst under your control at all times.
This is an encrypted tunnel that you activate by going to System>>Admin options and selecting ‘Remote support SSH’.This causes your system to poll our server every couple of minutes.
If you have called us and given us your hardware ID we activate this ID on our server. The next time the system polls we recognise it as a potential tunnel and tell your system to establish the encrypted tunnel to us.
Once the tunnel is created your Smoothwall will create a temporary admin login/password for us to log in with. This is only created for the time the tunnel is up.
We can tear the tunnel down at any time (typically at the end of the support call), or you can tear it down by deselecting the option above. It will also automatically time out after 24 hours.
You can freely leave the ‘Remote support SSH’ checkbox enabled all the time since it will only bring up the tunnel if we enter your hardware ID on our control centre admin system.
