A Game Changing BETT

In the spirit of the theme for Bett show this year, ‘Be the next Game Changer’, we think Smoothwall really delivered. We’re long standing patrons at the Bett show and year after year send our team to London for four days to talk to edtech visitors about the latest developments at Smoothwall, and this year was no exception.

Bett is one of the largest education technology shows, which boasts circa 35,000 visitors from 138 countries, and it takes place at the ExCel in London every January.

This year, the Smoothwall team headed down for the setup on Tuesday 24th January 2017, working with a team of designers and developers to bring our exciting stand ideas to life.

This year we created the ‘Smoothwall school’, designed to give visitors an immersive experience of learning and play. Within the school we had product demo zones, a classroom for exclusive online safety talks and an exciting augmented reality experience.

We were also proud to use the show as a platform to launch our brand new monitoring solution, Visigo, which is a text analysis moderation service, analysing content input via a keyboard and alerting schools of safeguarding concerns.

Visigo is a complementary solution to our existing products and services, meaning that we are now not only able to help schools meet their obligations with regards to appropriate filtering, but also appropriate monitoring as well.

The main talking point of our stand was our fun augmented reality experience, that was designed to show hidden threats within a screen, and created a lot of attention and excitement with passers by.

We also felt it was a lighthearted way of showing a very serious message about online safety, one that is a particularly hot topic right now. Hundreds of people stopped to have their pictures taken with our rascals, to find your picture or just for a bit of fun, visit to see the full gallery.

Our rascals also made their way into your hands and goodie bags in the form of little stressballs, and the challenge is now on for you to collect them all and tweet us using #SmoothwallClassof17.

There will be a prize for anyone that has all four rascals! Each year we always share our stand with Edugeek, and it was great to see so many faces come and talk to the team (and enjoy the free pizza!)

Thank you as always to Edugeek for joining us and making the experience more fun!

It’s been a great year, the team have worked super hard to show the latest developments at Smoothwall and we’ve personally had conversations with over 700 people.

We also managed to reach over 20,000 people on Twitter in the four days at Bett, you can find out more searching our hashtag #SmoothwallClassof17 and we’re delighted to have met so many interesting people.

If you didn’t get chance to meet us, don’t worry! You can contact our team any time here or by commenting below, and make sure you keep sending us your pictures from our stand as we love seeing them.

One final highlight of the show was meeting The Gadget Show’s Jason Bradbury, who loved our augmented reality game and stopped by to have his photo taken. We’re already excited for next year, roll on BETT 2018!
