Kenilworth Product release

Kenilworth launches the IDex identity indexing, providing a simpler and more scalable mechanism than authentication for identifying users. The popular Safeguarding feature is refined, and Google sign-in is added to user login pages.

IDex

Individual user identification is mandatory to comply with responsibilities for the protection and safeguarding of vulnerable users. IDex has been built with these needs in mind - it enables reliable user identification regardless of the domain controller infrastructure.

IDex is ready to go from installation, it is not reliant on a connection to domain controllers, the system ‘learns’ as users log in. This fast deployment and no-delay user access makes it ideal for all sizes of deployment and easy to scale.

IDex is designed to meet the growing need for individual user identification over traditional, less flexible authentication systems, particularly for safeguarding requirements.

IDex Directory

The IDex Directory is the heart of the IDex solution. This database runs on the Smoothwall appliance, and is the repository for user identity information provided by compatible IDex methods.

IDex Directory records the username, groups, IP address and logged-in timestamp for a user, and integrates with Smoothwall services that require identity information, such as Guardian and the Firewall.

It replicates data across nodes so all servers have access to current IDex data and can apply actions before a client first connects.

IDex Client

The IDex Client is an application which runs on a workstation as a service, forwarding the logged in user’s username, groups and web traffic to the Smoothwall.

IDex Client interrogates the workstation first hand as to who is logged into the device at any given time, and so is not reliant on a connection to domain controllers to identify users. It can be easily deployed and configured via Active Directory Group Policy, and is transparent to the end user.

IDex Agent

IDex Agent is an application which runs on Windows Active Directory domain controllers.

It monitors the Windows event audit log on the domain controller, and notifies IDex Directory of the logged in user’s username and IP address in real time. Group information is replicated on a daily basis, with an option to manually trigger replication.

IDex Agent can be deployed using Active Directory Group Policy.

Safeguarding Enhancements

We’ve added some of the most regularly requested customer functionality to the Safeguarding feature including filtering safeguarding reports by group.

This feature provides the ability to look at a specific user group’s breaches on the administrative UI or portal. Save time by viewing only the year group or class a safeguarding lead is assigned to.

Run Safeguarding Reports for Specific Date Range

You can now view breaches for a specific custom date range; perfect for cases investigating incidents further than one month in the past.

Print Safeguarding Reports

Print reports or export them as a PDF to assist with reporting needs, such as Ofsted inspections. Choose to print an individual user’s breaches or the whole report, from either the administrative interface or the user portal.

Increased Limit of Safeguarding Email Alert Groups

Increased limit of email alert Safeguarding groups from 20 to 500. Ideal for large Smoothwall deployments with up to 500 tenants.

Show YouTube Video Names in Safeguarding Reports

YouTube video titles will now appear in Safeguarding reports, removing the majority of ‘jargon’ 11 digit codes. Users will be able to assess information more quickly, without having to browse to YouTube to identify the watched video.

Display the Site Title Rather than the URL

Where possible, the URL of the site visited will be replaced by the title, which is more meaningful, and easier to understand. This increased clarity helps the Safeguarding lead interpret the reports without technical assistance from a System Administrator.

Google Sign-In button Brought to User Login Pages

You can now add the Google Sign-In button to your SSL or non-SSL login page for Google authentication purposes. Use your Google credentials for single sign-on, one click and you’re in!

New Filtering Category - Skype

A new category to help you to allow Skype to work for users in your organisation in a simple and secure way. Please note: TCP port 33033 must be allowed.
