Leading Safeguarding Speakers announced for BETT

Ahead of the BETT Show in two weeks, Smoothwall is pleased to announce the line-up of speakers presenting in their e-safety zone on Stand E300.

The panel of leading safeguarding experts will be delivering topical presentations addressing the latest safeguarding issues, and providing visitors with practical support and guidance on meeting their safeguarding obligations.

One of the major topics up for discussion is the newly released Department of Education draft legislation that officially recognises the importance of using student device monitoring to identify signs of radicalisation and other serious safeguarding issues.

On Wednesday 20th January, Mark Donkersley, MD of e-Safe, the forensic monitoring service, will be hosting the first presentation, which will be outlining how Multilingual Monitoring helps schools and colleges to effectively identify and manage safeguarding risks.

On Thursday 21st January, nationally recognised Prevent and safeguarding consultant, Abi Clay, will be running back to back sessions aimed at helping safeguarding teams to understand their increased legal obligations, including Ofsted’s e-safety expectations and compliance with the Prevent Duty.

Following this, Nicky Peachment from the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) will be talking about the latest research into online child sexual abuse and the measures that are being taken to reduce the number of instances.

Phil Smith, Head of Product at Smoothwall, will show a prototype of Smoothwall’s new SafeGuarding reporting system that goes to the heart of the Prevent initiative and compliments Smoothwall’s existing range of e-safety tools. John Redding and the students of Myrtle Park Primary School will also be presenting.

Claire Stead, Head of Marketing for Smoothwall says: “The expert led talks we have arranged at BETT are the first of a series of e-safety activities and events we have planned for 2016.

The BETT talks coupled with the e-safety masterclass in Leeds on the 16th March, demonstrate our continued commitment to strengthen e-safety in the Education sector. I would encourage people to visit our stand for one, if not many of the talks, and pick up valuable advice that will help them to manage future safeguarding challenges.”

Talks will run daily from the e-Safe Zone on Smoothwall’s Stand E300. Register your interest today.
