Youtube Restricted Mode and Category Update
This month our categorisation team have been working hard to improve the safe browsing of YouTube.
This update is a content modification which enforces YouTube Restricted Mode when browsing YouTube. Youtube Restricted Mode replaces Safety Mode for Youtube, and also ties in with Google Apps for Education.
Administrators on Google Apps for Education are able to log in and specify individual videos which should be allowed or restricted, as well as giving permissions to others to do the same. This will mean that teachers will have greater flexibility over allowing certain content to be viewed for classroom subjects that may have a sensitive nature.
Youtube Restricted Mode works across all mobile and desktop requests in a browser, but currently is not supported using the Youtube mobile application. Google Apps administrators and users must be signed in to take advantage of the viewing permissions. Please note this feature will replace Youtube Education.
Another update we’ve been working on, as bonfire night looms closer, is to add a category for Fireworks. This will restrict access to all websites related to purchasing or manufacturing fireworks or pyrotechnic devices. Protecting children against the harm of fireworks starts online!
